Trip to Europe, summer of 2002

San Sebastián

San Sebastián is also located in the Basque country (Euskadi), in the northeast corner of Spain.

Bordeaux

Bordeaux is located near the Atlantic, along the Garonne River, and is internationally known for its excellent quality wines.


This is the fountain monument to the Girondins, at the Esplanade des Quinconces.

This is the St. Michel's church and tower.

The Porte de la Grosse Cloche, a clock tower that used to be the city hall's bellfry.

The St. André's Cathedral.

Nantes

Nantes is located in the region of Brittany (Bretagne).
The Edict of Nantes, guaranteeing civl rights and freedom of conscience and worship to France's protestants, was signed by Henry IV in 1598.


The place where Jules Verne was born in 1828, located in the Feydeau island (Ile Feydeau).

This is part of the outside of the Chateau of the Dukes of Brittany (Chateaux des Ducs de Bretagne).
The Edict of Nantes was signed here.

That's me next to a sculpture of Anne of Brittany, outside the Castle of the Duques of Brittany.

The St. Pierre - St. Paul's Cathedral.

This is part of the tomb of Francois II, Duke of Brittany, inside St. Pierre - St. Paul's Cathedral.
This statue represents Prudence. It has a female face on one side and a bearded male face on the other.

The beautiful botanical gardens (Jardin des Plantes).

Giverny

Giverny is located in the region of Normandy (Normandie), in northwest France.
Claude Monet had his hoouse in this nice little village.
My godfather Nacho, aunt Lulú and La Guera (my aunt's sister) took me there because they know I like Monet a lot.

Some of the water lilies (Nymphéas) that Monet had in his garden's pool and that you can admire in some of his paitings.

The famous Japanese bridge found in Monet's work.

Have you ever seen an artichoke bloom?
I had never seen this before (I usually eat them way before this happens).
Pretty nice, ah?

Fontainebleau

Fontainebleau is best known for its Renaissance castle.
